For our Full Projects 3 course at Erasmus College Brussels, we were asked to experiment with AI and build an application in three weeks. Taking up a pitch about generative music, we used our first week to conceptualize and create a vision for our product. In the end, we ended up settling on the idea of building an installation.

Fermata,js is a black box where the music gets composed by anyone entering and willing to experiment. Built with the vision of collaborative composition without any prior knowledge of music needed, only the will to explore. The user gets to explore the box with a friend or stranger as if they were playing Twister and, with the help of an AI, a new composition is willed into existence as you play around.

In two weeks, we utilized our knowledge to bring our vision into the physical. Everything from 3D Printing, CNC machinery, hours of soldering and tinkering with Arduinos, woodworking, painting, and finally bringing all that and our code together. We are happy to say that we are proud of what we built and look forward to improving upon our product, so that we may share our vision with more people.
